COURSE IN PROGRESS

Golf Course Design Projects

The Payne Stewart Golf Club, Branson, MO

The new Payne Stewart Golf Club officially opened in the spring of 2009.  It wais designed to honor the life and achievements of Springfield, Mo. native Payne Stewart. The par 72 course measures over 7,350 yards from the back tees and has a plaque on each hole relating a specific event in Stewart’s celebrated career that was tragically cut short in 1999.  Clampett's unique design concepts implements such stories into the design of the course. The course is a joint effort between Chuck Smith Golf Course Design in collaboration with Bobby as design and player consultant. Venerable oaks march across the broad sweep of these hills in Branson, Missouri, upstaged in the spring by native redbud and dogwood. The gentle spring spectacle gives way to summer’s lush growth when freshets appear after a rain and creeks tumble over rocky outcroppings here and there. Come fall the woodland puts on its most dazzling and colorful cape of red and gold and the air turns crisp with hints of a wood fire warming someone’s great room in the distance. This is Branson Hills has cometo life in a spectacular landscape and made these ancient hollows perhaps the most desirable address in Southwest Missouri.    Here are some pictures and comments during the construction phase of the course.

The 488 yard downhill par 4 1st Hole. The Payne Stewart Rock (to the right) will have placques of all the Payne Stewart Award winners.

The 220 yard par 3 2nd hole is the longest par 3 on the course and requires Payne's patended "Chandelle" or slight fade.

The 343 yard downhill par 4 3rd hole is the shortest par 4 on the course and is drivable, but is that the best play? Natural rock croppings, like those on the right, add to the beauty and playability throughout the course.

The 450 yard Par 4 5th hole may be the most difficult par 4 on the course. Rock croppings and a waste bunker narrows the fairway in the landing area.

The 420 yard par 4 6th has a two tiered green

The 180 yard par 3 7th hole is simple, yet beautiful. A natural waterfall sits behind the green.

The 545 yard downhill par 5 8th hole is reachable in two, but the fairway is narrow and the green is hidden behind a hill on the 2nd shot. The pot bunker shown sits past the landing area off the tee.

The 430 yard downhill par 4 15th features a most unusual green with a stream siding the right side.

The 193 yard par 3 16th begins a stretch of 3 difficult finishing holes.

The 438 yard par 4 17th features an uphill 2nd shot to a green sided by a natural stream with a small waterfall.

The 432 yard uphill par 4 18th is a great finishing hole featuring the large oak short and to the right of the green
